OPIKI brings together works that consider the surface as a record of what it has undergone. Working with mortar, mineral dust, pigments, sand, and raw fabric, Kobylianski develops surfaces through settling, pressure, and removal. The resulting works retain the marks of their own formation. Like a body, photograph, or artifact altered by time and environment, they withhold the event itself, allowing only what remains to be carried forward.
