OPIKI brings together a recent selection of works that consider the surface as a record of what it has undergone. Working with mortar, mineral dust, pigments, sand, and raw fabric, Kobylianski develops surfaces through settling, pressure, and removal. The works retain the marks of their own formation and are often stitched together from separate fragments. Like a body, photograph, or artifact altered by time and environment, they withhold the event itself, allowing only what remains to be carried forward.
